Defining Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is defined differently by different sources. These links may help to give you a clear picture of what Web 2.0 is:
Is there really a second generation of the web? There may not really be a new interface, however, the new way of thinking about the web as a social networking environment is very different from how I have viewed the web in the past.

The Complete Web 2.0 Directory

I like to use this complete directory because it can sort the latest Web 2.0 resources by the most recent listed. This helps me to check emerging technologies for teacher training. I also like the filter that allows me to look at specific areas of social networking resources. For example, if I want to see the photo editing, organizing, storing and sharing resources I can filter it by photo.

Pageflakes?

Thanks to Terri Barclay I have subscribed to Kathy Schrock's Weekly S.O.S (Sites of the school Days), I encourage you to sign up by clicking on this link S.O.S. . One of her weekly tips was to look at using pageflakes as a classroom tool. This wonderful web 2.0 resource is easy to use and fun to set up. My students love it and it provides a great tool for collaboration, storage, tech tools and much more. You will all be building your own pageflakes pages and I am anxious to get some feedback. Please comment on the following questions:

1. Do you find this web 2.0 resource easy to use and understand?
2. Do you think that this is something that you would use in your classroom?
3. List some creative ways that you could use this in your classroom?

Let's learn a little about what pageflakes is!

Here are some of the faq's answered by the pageflakes staff. I think this will help you to better understand the mechanics of a pageflake. Have fun!

What is Pageflakes?

Pageflakes is your personalized startpage on the Internet. Your address book, local weather information, to-do-list, news, blogs and much more – all on one page that you can access from anywhere.

Why should I use pageflakes?

Until now you had to go to different web sites to check your email, start Web searches, get weather information and so on. With Pageflakes, everything you need is on one page! You can also use Pageflakes to keep up with your favorite blogs and news feeds. And best of all, it's free!

What is a flake?

"Flake" is our word for those little modules which you can see on the screen.

What are feeds?

Many blogs and news sites offer so-called "content feeds" which you can subscribe to using a feed reader service or application like Pageflakes. Think of it as the online equivalent of a newspaper subscription: Just like a newspaper subscription saves you the effort of going to a kiosk every day to get your newspaper, a feed subscription saves you the effort of going to all the different news and blog sites every day by getting everything delivered to your Pageflakes page.

What does "create template" mean?

If you've created a great page which other users might find useful, you can publish the page as a template page in the "Page Template" section of our Community Site. Other users can then pick your template and use it to create their own page.
